C. L. Hunt is a parent with a passion for science, education, and feminism. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida in criminal justice, and has been an activist for social change for as long as she can remember. Her favorite insect is a praying mantis, and she thinks spiders are cool. Fairy Experiments is her first book.

This project has been a labor of motherly love since my eldest daughter discovered Disney’s Tinker Bell movie in summer of 2014. By that fall, I was gathering data and writing out the first draft of what is now Fairy Experiments. From the start, I wanted this to be different from any other science experiment book, not because it invites femininity into this male-dominated field, but because I wanted to encourage those kids to actually engage with the activities presented therein. In keeping all the answers and explanations out of the book itself, I hope to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and resilience to failure in a population that has little opportunity to develop these vital skills. I hope you enjoy this project of mine as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together for you.
